Completed Workshops This Year:

Fall Workshop – “Hook, Line and Sinker: Catching the Attention of Older Learners in the Music Room” with Amy Abbott
Springbrook Elementary School, Kent | September 21, 2019 | 9am-3pm

Catching and maintaining the attention of upper elementary students can be a challenging and daunting task. But if you “bait your hook” just right you’ll soon have them eating out of your hand! In this session, we learned instructional strategies, pedagogical materials, and ways to build student rapport in order to gain and maintain the engagement rate of upper elementary students. Song material, singing games, reading activities, pacing ideas, lesson structure and delivery, and building trust and relationships with your students are among many of the topics that will be addressed as ways to increase student participation, ownership, and joy in the music classroom.

Thank you Amy for a wonderful workshop!

NWKE Member Sharing and Make & Take
Adams Elementary, Spokane Valley, WA | October 5, 2019

This October we held our NWKE Chapter Sharing Workshop with a Make & Take in Spokane, Washington!

Local Kodály members shared wisdom and featured some great games and songs for older grades, strategies for primary students, incorporating Kodály concepts into choral settings, and a make-and-take beat chart that you can use in many different ways!

NWKE Equity Book Study:
During our lunch break at the workshop on October 5th in Spokane, NWKE held their book study kick off! NWKE is hosting a book study group to read and discuss Glenn Singleton’s “Courageous Conversations” book about addressing racial inequity in schools with bravery, passion, self-reflection, and knowledge.
